What does reef safe and ocean friendly mean?
Our definition of reef safe and ocean friendly is based upon scientific findings from Haereticus Environmental Laboratory. Reef safe and ocean friendly products do not contain toxic chemicals that harm our coral reefs. While the most common chemical associated with coral reef bleaching is oxybenzone, there are many other chemicals that pose as a threat to our ocean and environment. For more information and a list of other chemicals to avoid, read our blog here.
Are all your products vegan?
Yes, our manufacturing partner crafts our products in a vegan facility. All of our products are made with 100% vegan and plant based ingredients and always will be!
Are you certified cruelty free?
Yes, we are Leaping Bunny Certified which is an Internationally recognized cruelty free certification. All companies that are Leaping Bunny Certified adhere to a Corporate Standard of Compassion for animals. Their complete certification criteria can be found here.
Are your ingredients fair trade?
Yes, our ingredients are fair trade. We've partnered with a sustainable manufacturer in the United States who sources many of our ingredients from their urban farm. Other ingredients, like shea butter and cocoa butter, that can only be found in other nations are directly sourced from local co-ops to help provide fair wages and valuable income to support women, families, and entire communities.
What do you mean by sustainable manufacturing?
Our manufacturing partner employs practices with the earth in mind. They have a solar powered facility, their own urban farm where they use collected rainwater to water their farm, and have zero carbon footprint and zero landfill in their production.
Do you have any SPF higher than 30?
We do not. SPF 30 is the dermatologist standard for protection as SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays while SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays. In fact, some experts say that sunscreens with higher SPF ratings can provide a false sense of protection where people stay out in the sun longer and forget to reapply.
How is your sunscreen water resistant?
All of our sunscreen is 80 minutes water resistant thanks to the plant based oils and butter that hold the particles in the lotion and keep them on the skin.
